Important Notice: Permits mailed to you in the summer of 2009 with 2010 and 2011 expiration dates will not be activated for gate use until August 15. Please retain your current permit until after that date.

Renewal Information

If your permit expires August 15, 2009, your permit fee is payroll deducted and your personal information has not changed since receiving your current permit, no other action is required at this time.  A permit for the same zone and same gate access will be mailed to employees.  Payroll deduction rates will not change in 2009-2010.  You may update your permit mailing address, vehicle information and waitlist preferences by visiting "Manage My Parking Account".  NetIDs will be required to make changes.  New permits will be mailed in late July, and should be displayed on your vehicle on August 15, 2009.

Information for Staff Retiring on August 31

Although parking permits expire on August 15, Parking and Transportation Services has worked with Human Resources to extend permits for all staff retiring on August 31, 2009. If for some reason your retirement date is not August 31, 2009 please contact PTS.

Parking Permits

Duke employees have the option of purchasing from several categories of parking passes. While there is no commonly used or suggested permit for employees, there are typically wait lists for permits other than for the "ungated" or "remote" zones for employees who work on the West Campus or at the Medical Center. Monthly rates for permits range from under $7 to $96.50.

2009-2010 Monthly Permit Cost

Premium - $62.50
Parking Decks - $52.25
Gated - $34.75
Proximate - $30.50
Remote - $9.65
Ungated - $6.80

Pre-Tax Information

  • Federal law allows parking costs to be deducted from the salary of eligible employees before taxes are applied.
  • By paying for a permit through payroll deduction, the amount of salary subject to Federal and State withholding tax is reduced by the cost of the permit.
  • Payroll deducting permit fees is the only way to for eligible employees to take advantage of the PRE-TAX opportunity. A take-home pay calculator is available to demonstrate this benefit.

Don't payroll deduct?
Employees whose permits are not paid by payroll deduction may find information here.  PDC physicians should visit this page and permit instructions for House Staff officers are available here.
