Walking
Many students, staff and faculty who live near Duke opt to walk to campus instead driving cars or riding buses. Dedicated walkers such as Illene Nelson, director of communications for Duke University Libraries, tout benefits, such as enjoying scenery, improving your health and cutting fuel costs.
Here is a map of the campus and health facilities that highlights accessible walking paths. More information about walking and greenways in Durham is available from the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Commission.
Many employees who walk to work use Duke Transit buses to attend meetings on campus. City and regional buses and Zipcar offer an option for walkers during inclement weather and to run errands off campus.
